A Harry Potter Christmas: Advent Calendar Highlights

Merry Christmas Everyone.  I hope you had a fantastic festive season. It’s a shame we can’t be this festive all year round, but I’m sure the novelty would wear off eventually, wouldn’t it.  I saw the supermarkets are already stocking Hot Cross Buns now too which is nuts.  We sure move on quickly.  I like Hot Cross Buns though so I can’t complain.

I’m sure you’ve read the title of this post and you’re thinking ‘But Emma, there isn’t a Harry Potter Advent Calendar’, well there is at my house!!  For the past 2 years in a row my champion of a fiancé has made me a home made Harry Potter Christmas Advent Calendar.

I wanted to share the highlights because I’m blown away by how cool they are and also just in case you wanted to start dropping hints now to your significant other for next year 😉

The Hogwarts Express (aka Pancake Train)

If you’re not from Hobart you’re probably not familiar with the old steam train we have with little shops in the carriages including a pancake cafe.  It was the best way to start the month too because how else do you get to Hogwarts if not for the Hogwarts Express 😉

Harry Potter Guess Who

I loved Guess Who as a kid so I was a little bit confused when I found the game I already owned wrapped up for one of the advent days.  It wasn’t until I opened the box that I realised there were print outs of all the different Harry Potter characters that you can stick on top the existing Guess Who characters to make my very own Harry Potter Guess Who.  Whoever came up with that idea is a freaking genius!!!

Cornish Pixie Lantern

How many people can say they have their own Cornish Pixie Lantern?  How cool is that.  It also has fairy lights inside so I’ll have to try and get a good picture when it’s dark.  I would never have thought of anything quite as cool as this so he got lots of points for Gryffindor that’s for sure!

Harry Potter Peg Dolls

How flipping adorable are my new hand painted Harry Potter Peg Dolls!!!  They are definitely the highlight.  I’m not that creatively inclined so I think they are just the best thing since my Cornish Pixie lantern!!

Hermione’s Yule Ball Earrings

I can’t say that I’ll ever wear these but that is absolutely beside the point.  They’re so sweet!

Expansion pack for the Harry Potter Board Game

Last Christmas I got the Harry Potter board game which I absolutely love.  We make our couple friends play it with us when they come over for dinner.  This year they released an expansion pack that adds in new characters, encounters and creatures called The Monster Box of Monster Expansion.  I’m so excited to play it!!  It’s going to be amazing.

Harry Potter Lego PS4 Game

It’s been around for a while apparently and I remember seeing it but I was concerned that it wouldn’t be any good. Jerome tells me that he’s done the research and it has good reviews so I’m excited to give it a go.  We’re just waiting for some proper time off together to sit down and have a proper go at it.

November Harry Potter Loot Crate

Unfortunately it was so delayed that it arrived on the 27th of December but nevertheless I was so excited.  I’ve looked at Loot Crate stuff before and I watch the reviews on You Tube, but I could never justify getting myself a subscription.  A pretty awesome end to a great Harry Potter Advent Calendar though.

There were other activities that we had to postpone due to weather and a tricky time schedule since we are both shift workers, but it just means I still have things to look forward to in the new year.

It really makes all the difference in the lead up to Christmas which can be such a stressful time.  Having a personalised Advent Calendar is just the best thing in the entire world.  It doesn’t need to be hugely expensive every day either.  Obviously there were things in there that cost money, but the Guess Who game for example apparently only cost a few dollars.  It’s also exciting to have the activities in there like going out for breakfast and some others we haven’t done yet like having a picnic in the botanical gardens and pretending it’s a Herbology lesson.

It changes the whole feel of Christmas and has made December my favourite month of the year.  Well played smart boyfriend.  Well played 🙂

Thanks Lauren. I’m certainly very lucky. I didn’t even plant the idea in his head haha.
