Thoughts you have when getting a new planner

Everyone hyperventilate!!  It’s time to get a new planner!!  Ohhhh I love planners so much!  I’m terrible at using them, but I love, love, love buying new ones in the hope that it’s going to make my entire new year the BEST YEAR EVERRRRR!!!

As I sit here and get excited about the fact that I finally have some bits and pieces to put in my new planner it made me laugh (to myself like a complete idiot) about what I’ve just realised are the same feelings I have every time I get a new planner.  I’m not the only one though surely, just admit it 😉

  • I’m definitely going to be using only good pens.
  • I’m only going to write in my BEST handwriting!!
  • Oh man I’m going to organise the SHIT out of next year!!
  • This planner is the thing I’ve been waiting for to make all my dreams come true!!
  • If I stuff this up and write something in the wrong spot I’m just going to absolutely die!! *heart starts racing*

Thoughts you have when getting a new planner

It’s amazing the effect stationary can have on a person.  I get more excited for a new planner than I do about seing some people in my family.  Cool it on the judgement, you know you’re the same 😉

Jerome and I are both shift workers so I definitely need something to keep track of our lives otherwise nothing would ever get done, but given that I’m almost 32 (insert panic attack here) I need something with a little more oomph.  Besides I’ve got my whole 35 before 35 list going on now so I’m going to need something hard core to pull that off.

Last year Jerome got me a Happiness Planner and despite the fact that it’s probably the most beautiful planner I will ever own, I just couldn’t get into it.  It had pages to fill out about ‘What have you achieved so far that you’re proud of’, ‘What are you grateful for in your life’.  ERGH!!!  I know what you’re thinking ‘Emma, you’re nuts, that sounds wonderful’, but I couldn’t think of anything worse than writing down my feelings like that.

This year I have a planner dilemma!!  I got 2 planners for Christmas.  Sounds like a dream, but I only really need one.  Jerome got me one that he pointed out to me on Kickstarter a little while ago. It’s made by Meraki and each month has a different focus and it has a great place for goal setting and plans of action.

Mum got me the other one which is by Kikki-K and is beautiful.  It’s slightly more practical because it’s smaller and it has an area at the back where you can keep a list of books and movies I want to read or see, but it has less of the goal setting stuff.

After much deliberation I’ve decided to embrace both planners and have one for work and one for home.  It might encourage me to keep work life seperate from home life.  There’s nothing worse than writing down exciting home things in your planner only to see your work roster cramping your style.

Let me know if you’ve written a post on your 2018 planner.  I’d love to read it.  Organisation makes me happy.

I think you nailed everyone thoughts and excitement of a new planner and the horrors of making a mistake. I did mine yesterday and had exactly the same emotions. Thanks Em.

Decisions, decisions… Enjoyed reading this and learning more about how you problem solve.

I also ❤️❤️ the design of this website! It’s super functional, and I might steal some of your style ideas for my own.

Liked your use of images, they added a lot to the article. Really great stuff.

    I think you’re plenty creative.

Hi Jared. Thanks for reading. Glad you enjoyed it. Also glad my creativity isn’t as bad as I think 🙂
